Class and Color

design, installation, lighting

A unique dichotomy for a beautifully designed home in the Club at Ibis.

Scale of Vision

A homeowner came to us unhappy with her current environment. The plant material was past its prime, and there was nothing of major interest. As we spoke further, we realized she did not care for palms or a tropical aesthetic, but preferred a more formal garden look. While no one else had partnered deep enough to understand her desires, we discovered that she also wanted color and floral variety.

The homeowner also desired simple functionalities that were lacking in her living space. The irrigation was a mess, water was everywhere, there was zero privacy from the golf course, and the homeowner could not
even walk around her property on clean walking paths.

Humbly Collaborate

We helped the homeowner realize that adding anything else to the property would result in a further mess. So, we decided to remove every last thing from the property (except the canary island date palm which was her main focal point) and start from scratch.

Design Your Environment

Perhaps the biggest engineering feat was replacing the soil and perfecting the grades of the entire property. Our new design resembled the formal garden technique of carpet bedding, framing nearly every bed with dwarf podocarpus. We properly installed a bougainvillea espalier to bring pops of purple to the entire front wall. Hibiscus was chosen to tie the pink tone throughout the house, with Martha's vineyard roses lining the entire back fence of the property. A seamless podocarpus hedge then pushed above said roses to colorfully connect to the elevated hedge provided by the calophyllum trees. This entire back section was designed to continue to
grow into a beautifully diverse and natural privacy wall.

For the irrigation, we decided to hydrozone the property and cluster necessary plants together. This allowed us to keep the variety of plant material beautiful throughout a multitude of weather conditions. For instance, the pop of color in the flowers could flourish in the summer heat without overwatering plants and trees. We added synthetic turf in the back to create a clean living and walking space for the homeowner and her pets.

Experience your Environment

Our homeowner now experiences class and color every time she comes home. Furthermore, she now has clean, dry pathways all year long on both sides of the house because of efficiently designed irrigation and drainage. She is no longer frustrated to be in her yard or wash her dogs, but has a clean, usable space that is also beautiful. She can let the dogs out in the back and enjoy complete privacy from the golf course.

Sustainable Enjoyment

Most importantly, the solutions are sustainable. Through proper irrigation and design, we’ve set the plants up to thrive. The plant matter continues to grow into a full, colorful, and formal environment. We replace the flowers annually to ensure the richness of color, and the side yards remain completely accessible. Even the neighbors know about the property and talk about the flowers; that corner of the community has been transformed.
